About Mirjam Hazenoot
Whether your message or story has the shape of a book, an article, or a project: I love to make people look at it. I specialize in editorial and conceptual illustration, digital art and photography. I live in Holland and got my education at the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague. I've created work for magazines, government institutions and various professionals. I'm also working as an editor. Images and words are forged in the same fire.
How I work
Most images I make start with a lot of thinking and sketching. Chewing on an idea or concept: how can I make it work? (that is, if a helpful client or art director didn't put me on a certain track already). How can I create a connection between message and form, something that makes people think or smile? But sometimes I'm just having fun with creating a colourful atmosphere. Or capturing beautiful textures or landscapes during travels.
Pencil, crayon, ink and my camera are my tools. I love finishing up or creating images in Photoshop too (like my Organic Space series) but for me, nothing beats feeling good quality paper. My thumb and knuckles getting dirty, my table full of sketches, pencils and crayons. My favourite way to shape an image exactly the way I want it to be: sharp, individual and layered. If you need an image that is just that, get in touch!
